If you’re having sex with someone who ejaculates, it can further lower the pH levels. As a result, some individuals may notice that they are more prone to infections during this time.”
  • Concern over transmitting STIs? As with any sexual activity, it’s important to prioritise safety. There is a risk – even when you’re on your period – but if both partners are free of STIs and you use barrier methods like condoms, the risk is minimal.

Can sex bring on your period?

Great question. Right before your period, your hormone levels drop to signal to your body that your period is due. So yes, sex at this point in your menstrual cycle could cause your period to start. When you orgasm, your uterus will contract and can start bleeding.
